Tulsidas, the famous saint-poet,said,"one can test the worth of patience,religion,friend and wife only in difficult times". Every person thinks that he is very patient ,he is religious,his wife is faithful,he is in the company of good friends,but all these can be tested only in difficult times.
If you can maintain your calm in an adverse situation ,you will be called patient .On the surface everyone is religious, but whenever one confronts a temptation ,lust, means to fulfill one's desire ,one deviate from principles. If one can restrain oneself even in such challenging situations, and can maintain calm, then that person is really religious. Each person believes his wife is faithful, but if you are sent into exile for a period of fourteen years ,as happened to Lord Ram and yet your wife stays with you, then alone can you think of her being faithful. Note that whenever you are happy many people will surround you , but when you are in trouble and trying to connect your friend on the cell phone, and he is switching your call off or ignoring it, then why you are calling him .
Sweet words of a gentleman can find him lots of friends Only he who is available in time of need, is a real friend.
In your difficult times , you may find that no one is around to save you, and if at that moment someone arrives , think of him alone as a real friend of yours.
Friendship should be like a fish in water, which can not survive without water. It should not be the way a bird over the sea,staying for a while and then flying away .Friendship is like a candle and thread, just as the thread burns itself to maintain that relationship,similarly the wax of the candle also melts with it.A friend should be like a shield, which even though lying on its back,comes to the fore to save your life in adverse times.
